Reading Recovery
Reading Recovery is a 12-20 week intensive reading intervention program for students who are struggling with reading in Grade 1. Each Reading Recovery lesson is 30 minutes and is specifically designed to meet the needs of the individual student. Reading Recovery students meet with me daily one on one. Each lesson includes reading, writing and word work. See A Typical Lesson for more information on what a lesson includes.
The first 10 lessons in the program are called "Roaming." During this time, we work on building confidence in students by building on the reading skills students have. During this time, students will bring home a book they have read during the lesson to re-read to parents each evening. When typical lessons begin after roaming, students will bring home a book read during the lesson (the "Running Record' book referred to in the Typical Lesson) to read to parents, as well as a cut-up sentence story. (The sentence story was written by the student during the lesson in his/her writing journal.) The student's job is to correctly reassemble the story at home and read the sentence aloud. Final reports on student progress are sent home in June. You can contact me at [email protected] 914-669-5317 x3161 |
